DESCRIPTION

Presenting an exquisite 1700s Japanese chest (also called Tansu) – a piece of history in its purest form. This lightweight mobile chest of drawers boasts a minimalist elegance with four drawers, each adorned with metallic handles for a touch of functionality. At the bottom right-hand corner, shelves are discreetly tucked away behind a locked panel, accessible only with a key. Besides it on the left is a smaller drawer with a meticulously forged metallic escuthcheon surrounding the keyhole. These ironmongery motifs and armorial shield designs were unique to elite families and some of the lineage of these pieces of furniture can be traced using this methodology. Transporting this piece is made easy with metallic handles on the sides whilst ironmongery is also used to protect the edges.
