DESCRIPTION
This wooden carved figure from the Burmese Shan States (Thailand/Burma) dates back to the mid 1800s. Made up of multiple mythical figures, we can see the head of a hansa or hintha bird (symbolizing power, mystique and auspiciousness) holding another twisting creature in its beak, while the hind end of the carving portrays a feline sprinting away but one whose head is turned back to keep the hintha bird in sight. An exceptional addition to any collection, these types of motifs were believed to ward off ill omens.
